The Whisky Skin Cocktail Story...

There are many types of drinkers out there. Some people prefer sweet, fun, fruity drinks, and others prefer something simple and civilized—some like things simple but boozy. I'm somewhere between the first and last group for most of the year. At this moment, my favorite drink is probably the Bourbon Renewal! A simple cocktail built with bourbon, creme de cassis, sugar syrup, and lemon juice. This combination makes for a sweet, tart flavor with hints of bourbon and cassis.

BUT, In the winter season, after trudging through snow and freezing most of the time because I live in a nordic climate, something like a Hot Toddy is my favorite drink: whiskey, sugar, and boiling water with a little bit of lemon peel. A Toddy has become a synonym for everything except this. You're likely going to get a lot of honey, boiled cider, McCormick spices, several liqueurs, and a little bit of whiskey when ordering a Toddy today. It's OK to drink that stuff; I do it too, but closer to Christmas. It would be nice to get something with a little less fuss that offers something closer to the original Toddy. Browsing through new recipes, I came across precisely this!

The new name for the traditional Toddy has become a "Whisky Skin cocktail" However, It was known as a Whisky Skin cocktail back in the 1850s too. The "skin" part came from lemon peel, and the "whisky part meant they preferred it with Scotch. It was pretty popular back then. It's no wonder because back then, all Scotch was pure malt. Rich, heady stuff that could withstand a little sugar, water, and a lemon peel without any problems.
