The Rodriguez Sour Cocktail Story...

The Rodriguez Sour could be called a variation of the Margarita. It has Tequila, lime, and sugar syrup. It would not be wrong to do this, but the syrup instead of triple sec makes it more like a Tequila Sour.

The Rodriguez Sour cocktail, whatever the occasion, is a sweet-sour cocktail that has a kick of jalapeno. Kevin Diedrich, a bartender and veteran of San Francisco's Pacific Cocktail Haven, created the drink. The drink combines spicy jalapeno syrup, sweet-tart pineapple flavors, and additional complexity from the green Chartreuse. The history of this French herbal liqueur is long and secretive. Its recipe is reportedly only known to a few monks. The secret recipe aside, this liqueur is excellent with many spirits. It lends its aromatic botanicals to drinks such as the Last WORD or the Tipperary. The liqueur pairs well with Tequila because of its grassy notes.

The simple jalapeno syrup adds heat. It's a good idea to remove the seeds from the pepper before you simmer it in the syrup. This will reduce the spice level. For those who like spicy cocktails, you can use the whole pepper. This syrup can spice up cocktails such as a Margarita or Tom Collins, so experiment with it a bit if you want!
